Hearing God's Voice
(Taken from
Prayer Posse)
One
of my favorite stories in the Bible is the story of Samuel. He was
only a boy when he heard God’s voice calling him. The Bible says he
was asleep one night when he heard a voice calling, “Samuel.” He
jumped out of bed and ran into Eli to ask what it was he wanted. Eli
said, “Son, I didn’t call you.” This happened three times! Finally,
Eli realized God was trying to talk to Samuel. Eli told him the next
time to answer and say, “Lord, here I am – speak, because I’m
listening.” Sure enough, when he did that, the Lord began to talk to
Samuel.
Young children have the
ability to hear God’s voice. At what age should we introduce
children to prayer and intercession? As early as possible. The Holy
Spirit has no age; He is Spirit and works in all who believe. Even
little ones…..
A child’s prayer is
valuable. They have no religious hang-ups and aren’t moved by
unbelief. They just believe for answers; they expect miracles1
“I praise You, Father,
Lord of heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from
the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.”
(Matthew 11:25, Luke 10:21) “I tell you the truth, unless you change
and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of
heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the
greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3, 4)
Dads and moms, never
underestimate your kids! They are mighty in the Spirit! They have
the ability and power within them to move mountains and change the
world around them through prayer. As parents, we lead by example.
When we get out of our comfort zone and experience new areas in the
Spirit, our children will often follow our lead. However, the
greater blessing will be yours because on different occasions you
will no longer be leading them, they’ll be leading you. Encourage
them and release them to pray!
