Righteousness

What is righteousness?

Righteousness is coming before a holy God at any time without guilt or condemnation (Romans 8:1). It is sin free (1 John 3:9). It is a position that God has placed me in (2 Corinthians 1:21). It is my inheritance right now (Ephesians 1:11). We became joint heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17).

Romans 5:8 – 6:3.

1. Sin came through one man, Adam (Romans 5:12).

2. Righteousness came through one man, Jesus. (Romans 5:19).

3. We were born unrighteous (natural birth). We were born with a sin nature and no amount of doing good will make us righteous.

4. We are now born again (supernatural birth), a new creature in Christ with a new nature. No amount of doing bad (sin) can make us unrighteous (The new man: the spirit man does not sin; our old man sins).

5. We were baptized into Christ (Romans 6:3). To be baptized is to be totally submerged into something with nothing showing. We do not baptize ourselves; it is God and His Spirit Who baptizes us into Christ
(1 Corinthians 12:13; 2 Corinthians 1:21).

Our righteousness is like our salvation – you cannot lose it by messing up. Righteousness does not come by what we do or don’t do, it is because of what He did. We are now justified by His blood. To be justified literally means, “Just as if I never sinned” (Romans 5:9).

Romans 6:4-14.

1. Our old man has been crucified with Christ and now we walk in newness of life (Romans 6:4-8).

2. Jesus conquered death – it no longer has dominion over Him or us because we are in  Him (Romans 6:9). Now we need to reckon ourselves dead to sin and alive to Christ (Romans 6:11).

In Him, there is nothing more to change because we are dead (a dead man has no rights, thoughts, feelings, etc.) Now it is all about Jesus. Satan wants us to be sin-conscious, therefore feeding a deadly, vicious cycle. Jesus wants us to be righteousness conscious, focused on our position in Him, who I am in Him, not what I need to change to be more like Him. Acts 17:28a says, “For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.”

How does this apply to training in righteousness?

1. How you see yourself will determine how you train and discipline your children.

2. How you see yourself will also determine the level of success and victory you have, not only in child rearing, but in every aspect of your life.

3. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:16 that he sees no man after the flesh. Where you choose to walk (in the Spirit or flesh), will determine how you see your children, husband, and others.

                                         Parenting in righteousness

The Father’s love.

Parents, focus on and receive the love of the Father for you personally.

Romans 5:8: God showed us His love in Christ dying for us while we were still sinners.

John 15:13: There is no greater love than to lay your life down for your friends.

1 John 3:1-3: God loved us so much that He called us His children.

1 John 3:16: We know His love because He laid His life down for us.

Focus on the Father’s love for myself, my children and my husband.

2 Corinthians 5:17: We are new creatures in Christ; the old is gone and all things are new.

Romans 8:1, 2: There is no condemnation to those in Christ. The law of the Spirit of life in Christ has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Romans 5:8: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.

2 Corinthians 5:16: We no longer regard anyone according to the flesh.

Colossians 3:11: There is no more Greek or Jew, slave or free, for Christ is all in all.

Focus on scripture pertaining to who you and your children are in Christ.

Hebrews 10:20: Jesus made a new and living way for us.

2 Corinthians 5:17: We are a new creation in Christ.

Romans 8:9-17: We are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit if the Spirit of God dwells in us.

Galatians 3:26-29: We are sons of God through Christ and we are all one in Christ Jesus.

Galatians 4:4-7: We are no longer servants, but sons and heirs of God through Christ.

Take authority over weakness in yourself and in your children.

Galatians 2:16-21: We were crucified with Christ and we now live the life of Jesus by His faith, which is the new and living way.

Galatians 3:11-14: We live by faith, not the law. The law justified no one – it only condemned us. Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law.

Mark 11:22-26: Use the faith of God to speak to mountains (hindrances) to be removed.

Isaiah 54:17: No weapon formed against us will prosper.

Ephesians 6:12: We war not against flesh and blood.

Declare out loud who you and your children are in Christ.

Psalm 107:2: Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
