Prayer in the Throne Room

“Be careful (anxious, full of care) for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.”

(Philippians 4:6). Be anxious for nothing! The only way not to be anxious for anything is to know God’s ways. Trust Him that He knows what you need before you ask.

Over my 60 plus years, I have spent many hours making my requests known to God. At times, He seemed so removed from my plights – what was going on in my life concerning my family, job, bills, health etc. I did not understand I was praying out of need. “Praying out of need” is believing you have a need instead of believing that God has done everything for you. Colossians 2:10 says we are complete in Him and according to 2 Peter 1:3, we have everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him. The release of the supply is believing and receiving that it is already yours. That is how you can pray with thanksgiving.

That is boldness! The Word says in Hebrews 4:16 that we should come before the throne boldly. Boldness means all outspokenness, frankness, bluntness, assurance (Greek). Coming “boldly” before the throne is to demand what is already yours as an inheritance. James 4:2, 3 says you have not because you ask not. The word “ask” (Greek) means to require and comes from a word that means to make a demand on or search for something hidden.

In my mind, I used to see myself standing in this vast throne room, shoulder to shoulder with millions of others making my requests known unto God. Literally overwhelmed, I saw myself as an insignificant speck gazing on a radiant light that represented an unreachable God.

Boldness! Yes! It was like I would take a deep breath, get my composure and say to myself, “His mercy was new this morning and it doesn’t matter about all the screw-ups yesterday. It’s okay, I have a right to be here. He has cast my sins as far as the east is from the west and He has sat down never to remember them again.” As I would start to ask God to meet my need, I would again be aware there are millions in this room all praying at once. It’s like a roar of many waters and my prayer and supplication are just part of the roar.

The omni-presence of God became real to me one day as I went and sat on the porch swing and declared to God that I was entering the throne room with great boldness. The Lord stopped me in the middle of that to set some things in order in me.

“What do you see in the throne room and what is it about?” asked God.  I answered, “That is where You sit on Your throne to rule and reign. It is where I can enter and pray with boldness.” The Lord responded back to me, “You can only do this through the new and living way (your abiding place in Christ) that I have provided.” I said, “Yes Lord, I think I understand this.” The Lord said, “No, you do not understand. If you did, you would not see yourself in the middle of millions. You would come and sit down with Christ in Me (God) and declare with thanksgiving that your needs and the needs of others are already met in My Son. Any other way of request is faithless.”

James 1:6, 7 tells us to ask in faith, with no wavering. The Word says if we waver, we will receive nothing. Asking with thanksgiving is asking with faith. We believe it has already been done. Much of our praying is faithless because we do not believe God will answer our petition. You see, all those years I was making my requests known with prayer and supplication, but was leaving out the thanksgiving part. I was not praying in faith!
